BELGIAN COMMUNICATION SUMMIT

Is the pressure of political correctness becoming the 21st century's censorship?

27 November 2018

We are very happy to invite you to our Belgian Communication Summit 2018!

How to communicate in a sensitive world ?

Communicating without upsetting people is getting more difficult every day. Some people getoffended when companies, governments or spokespersons call things by their name, others get offended when traditions have to be changed because of political correctness.

Is the pressure of political correctness becoming the 21st century's censorship ? Are communicators being held hostage and limited in their creativity by their customers because of it ? Are we working more for the masses reactions than for our customers ? Are we still able to tell what we actually want to say or are we pro-actively avoiding any possible debate, which might be difficult to contain and manage because of the impact and speed of social media ? Are debates and reactions on social mediamanageable and containable anyway ?

Are we evolving towards discussion managers instead of discussion initiators ?

During the Communication Summit '18, C² will focus on content, target groups in communication and different platforms that rose and turned very interactive communications and opinion making into reality.

We will have three valued key note speakers to set the scene and to share their academic and business vision.

WORKSHOP/DEBATE | 2 Media landscapes in 1 country | 8 November

Are communication profesionals in the french speaking part of Belgium aware of the story of Bo Van Spilbeeck, one of Flander's leading VTM journalists ?

  © VTM

And have their flemish speaking colleagues ever heard of the controversial Vivacité animator Benjamin Maréchal ?

 © RTBF

We shouldn't be surprised if the answer is no to both questions. Even though these two media figures have dominated regional news, it is a perfect illustration on the lack of knowledge of each other's mediatic landscape. Both regions seem to be living in a so-called media bubble.

To help Belgian communication professionals to get to know their linguistic opposite sidesa bit better, C² is organizing a workshop / crashcourse on both the dutch and the french speaking media for their linguistic counterpart. We will explain about active press groups in the northern and in the southern part, explain about some market specific details in both parts, introduce themost influential journalists and provide some facts and figures about reach and importance.

The workshops will be lead by Mathieu Van Overstraeten (akkanto) and Fabrice Gansbeke(Proximus) and 2 experienced journalists, Pierre-François Lovens (La Libre) and Aubry Touriel(DaarDaar.be, VRT, RTBF) will share their knowledge about both the dutch speaking and the french speaking media landscapes.

The workshop will end with some Q&A time and some sandwiches for lunch !
